Building your own plasma TV stand furniture is a great way to save yourself some money, and give you the satisfaction of knowing that the cabinetry in your home was built by yourself. If you have a do it yourself attitude, this is a great project to complete that only requires basic knowledge of hand tools, and cabinet framing. Within a few hours, you can begin enjoying your newly created plasma TV cabinet by following the basic steps that we have outlined for you below.
Step #1) Cut The Sides – To start the project, you are going to want to cut two 16” x 16” sections that are going to make up the sides of the cabinet. Make sure that you are using furniture grade plywood so that you will know that the cabinet will last for a very long time. Lower grade plywood does cost less overall, but the longevity of the cabinet depends on you using only the best furniture grade plywood.
Step #2) Cut The Top And Bottom – Now you want to cut the top and bottom of the cabinet. To start, you are going to want to measure down 16” for the height of the cabinet, and across 32” on both sides for the width of the cabinet. These pieces will be used to attach to the sides once you have all of the pieces cut.
Step #3) Cut The Back – Again, you are going to want to cut a 16” x 32” piece of plywood that will be used as the back of the cabinet. This is going to help give you plenty of space to store items underneath the unit, while also giving it enough structural rigidity to hold heavier televisions.
Step #4) Attach The Sides To The Back – With a framing square handy, attach the sides of the cabinet to the back, and use the square to make sure that they are flush, and installed properly. You want to avoid having any overhang in the material.
Step #5) Attach The Top And Bottom – Now you can attach the top and bottom to the sides, and back. Using fine finishing nails, nail through the top and bottom, and use wood putty to fill in the holes and keep them from being visible once you begin staining the material.
Step #6) Install Legs And Trim Pieces – Now you can install the legs and trim pieces to help cover up the seams where you joined the sides, top and bottom, and the back section. You can use typical styled housing trim for this step, and even match it to the trim that is already in your home.
